Mission

Perry's School Alumni, a 501(c)(3), was founded in 1989 to honor its legacy by providing a safe and supportive space for individuals and families in Franklin County, NC, to connect with the past, engage in educational and cultural activities, and access resources that strengthen community ties and promote lifelong learning.

Vision

To create a safe and inclusive space where individuals and families can connect with the past, engage in meaningful educational and cultural activities, and access vital community resources.

History

Established as part of the Rosenwald Schools initiative, Perry’s School played a critical role in providing education for African American children during the Jim Crow era. It symbolizes the strength and determination of a community striving for equality and progress.Perry's School is listed on The National Register of Historic Places and serves as a historic site in Centerville, North Carolina.

OUR GOALS

Perry's School Alumni envisions a vibrant cultural community hub that celebrates history, promotes education, and nurtures meaningful connections. Through this work, we aim to:-preserve Perry’s School to ensure its structural integrity and historical significance are maintained for generations to come;-provide accessible programs for local families, youth, and seniors, including educational, recreational, and cultural opportunities.-partner with local organizations to educate the community on the rich history of Perry’s School and its role in fighting for equal rights.

What's Happening at Perry's School?

Roof Repair Completed (December 2024): The roof has been fully repaired, protecting the structure and laying the groundwork for the next stages of restoration. Thank you for your excellent work!Upcoming Work: Our next steps include foundation repairs and preparing the interior of the Rosenwald School for restoration.
